Several productions by BLu ACiD and ElectroBluesSociety were created through long-distance collaboration with guest vocalists, including Boo Boo Davis, Steffen Morrison, and Jan Hidding.
The recording process generally followed a specific workflow. Vocals were recorded first, usually over a simple backing track with a fixed BPM.
Once the vocal recordings were completed, instrumental layers, arrangements, edits, and atmospheric elements were built around them. Vocals were cut, rearranged, and processed separately from the music production itself.
As a result, vocal performances and instrumental productions were often created in different locations and at different times.
For BLu ACiD, most of the production work was carried out collaboratively by Mischa and Jan in Mischa’s studio. The archived video footage below documents part of the recording sessions with Boo Boo Davis during the production of What Kind Of Shit Is This.
In contrast, ElectroBluesSociety productions were frequently developed remotely, with project files continuously exchanged between Jasper and Jan throughout the production process.
During the COVID pandemic, the collaboration between ElectroBluesSociety and Boo Boo Davis became entirely remote. Boo Boo recorded his vocals in East St. Louis, while Jasper and Jan worked from the Netherlands. Communication and file exchange required an indirect workflow, since Boo Boo neither used computers nor could read or write. Through a trusted contact in St. Louis, audio files and recordings were exchanged back and forth across continents.
